Trying to be a good president of a camera club does come with perks…

Of course it is hard work, but there are benefits.

The September field trip took us to the Fairchild Oak where we did some light painting. And to prepare I always go to YouTube and look at some instructional videos. I happened upon a Masterclass from Australian photographer Denis Smith (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0es2U6j_kk). This masterclass handled the making of orbs and the first orb I tried to make turned out to be a basket (ask Sylvia). That was a number of years ago. This time I was determined to do better.

So a 43 minute masterclass later I was convinced I could do better. I’ll try again next time…

But I took this tidbit of information from Denis’ masterclass: so simple and yet it never dawned on me: shutter speed controls ambient light and aperture controls artificial light. This will help me with my flash pictures as well. Of course I divulged this info to the members who came to the field trip and that helped with blown out high lights.

The field trip was a great success; after years doing light painting on the beach we changed to the Fairchild Oak, because I wanted to create a different vibe. Except for the bugs (mosquitos and fire ants) we were quite happy. In State Parks you can’t stay after sunset, so I had asked permission first. Of course someone came and checked on us. Strange people those photographers…

7 members joined me in this venture and the beauty of it is, that everyone helps everyone. I am very grateful that our camera club comprises of people who are willing to help one another. Let’s keep it that way…

Till next time,

Ans
