March 8, 2022

You blink and it is March in a new year… And so far, it has been a fabulous year! The first meeting of the year took place on January 27 in the Madorsky Theater in the Southeast Museum of Photography. After the meeting the exhibit in the Community Spotlight Gallery “Local Color” was officially opened. The board had decided on a small works exhibit (12″x12″ framed and 10″x10″ images) and all the images had to have been taken in a Park (local, state or federal) within the last 2 years. Christina Katsolis, program director of the museum made this one of the best exhibits we ever had. If you haven’t seen it yet: it will be in the museum at least till the end of April.

Talking about the end of April: we will have another meeting in the Madorsky Theater with a presenter (t.b.a.) as an Artist’s Talk. Very exciting and afterwards, because the Covid restrictions have been lifted, we will have a catered reception.

In between we have the 29th Ebony & Ivory Show, expertly judge by Jayanti Seiler, Assistant Chair and Professor of Photography at Daytona State College.

Our first in person meeting in the Casements Gallery featured Steven Benson, Professor of Photography and Program Director at the Southeast Center of Photography at Daytona State College. He showed pictures of his projects: Three Gorges Dam in China and Highway (re)Construction in Central Florida. Great pictures and interesting stories!

We also had two fabulous field trips: in January to the Reptile Discovery Center and in February to Hontoon Island State Park. Next week we are doing a Photowalk in New Smyrna Beach and will pop in at Arts on Douglas, where Juliana Romnes has a solo exhibit.

The board will keep on expanding our horizons (photographically speaking that is), even if travelling is a bit difficult right now.

Keep on shooting; till next time!
