Our 26th Ebony & Ivory Show is up and running in the Casements Gallery – a great show, although some people don’t like the Gallery because of the glare on the images. Anti-glare glass is suggested, but costly.
Our judge, Steven Benson (photography professor from DSC) had only good things to say about our show. Go visit his website (http;//stevenbensonphotographer.com) and you’ll see that he is uniquely qualified to judge a black & white show
Of course I have a gripe about presentation: make sure, if you do the matting and framing yourself, to work on a clean space – I saw a lot of hairs under the glass! You want to present your best work, something you’re proud of. That means the best black frame (without scratches) and the nicest white or black mattes.
And if you have the opportunity to attend a critique: do so! Yesterday we had Art League teacher Rafael Torres in the Gallery commenting on the exhibition and maybe we don’t agree with him in all he says, but you learn!
Another venue that has FREE!! events is the Southeast Museum of Photography. If you have never visited this free museum – do so!
On Thursday, March 7 Pennsylvania photographer Lydia Panas (http://lydiapanas.com) gave a presentation on her work: Sleeping Beauty – her portraiture is very, very interesting and the presentation was excellent.
The board of the Casements Camera Club tries hard to present interesting speakers and events that’ll will further your photography in the right direction and if our exhibits are an indication all our members are heading that way. I said in my speech at the openingsreception that I can’t help to be proud that I was a part of so many of the award winning images through organizing field trips and the like. I will try to keep up the pace!
Till the next time!
