Ten days ago the openings reception for our URBAN SPACES exhibit in the Community Spotlight Gallery of the Southeast Museum of Photography took place. And what an exhibit it is…
We have to thank Christina Katsolis of the Museum for the incredible job she did in putting this exhibit together. There were so many things that went wrong for us, but an extra meeting on March 27 brought relief. Whitney Broadaway (the museum’s director) and Christina explained how editing an exhibit works. After a lot of back and forth and many WeTransfers with large TIFFs and RAW-files the show looks amazing!
The strike of the show is not until May 27, so go see it. It is worth your while (and entry to the museum is free!)
Dealing with the entries for the museum show it was obvious that a lot of members have to be reminded of Aspect Ratio, Megapixels and Print Sizes…
In the April meeting we will talk about this and I will show what an image looks like that absolutely can’t be printed.
Of course there is a mea culpa too: if someone didn’t send me a 16×20 image, but instead a 12×20 image I tried to fix it. WOW was I wrong. I extended the canvas and checked the Content Aware checkbox. DON’T EVER DO THAT! I should have listened to Matt Kloskowski who had a video explaining this. It was a disaster. You didn’t see it on the screen, but boy, if you print it 16×20 every little mistake is VERY visible.
Lesson learned!
Now we are working on the 10th Annual Spring Exhibit in the Casements and I can’t wait to see what will be entered in a show where anything goes…
