The year flies by… What have we done since March?

Our exhibit in the Community Spotlight Gallery of the Southeast Museum of Photography was stricken on June 29, but the Local Color/Discovering Unseen Florida exhibit found a place in the Gallery of the Casements for the Parks and Recreation month of July in a different configuration.

We appreciate the exposure this exhibit generated.

Our 9th Annual Spring Exhibit struck when the Local Color Exhibit was hung. Member voting for the 9th Annual Spring Exhibit was low (30 out of 70 members), but 207 members of the public voted and that was a record. You can find the images of the Spring Exhibit under the Gallery heading of this web site.

Our meetings were fabulous; the April 28 meeting took place in the Madorsky Theater of the Museum and featured Juliana Romnes talking about her Coastal Impressions project. This presentation was followed by a catered reception in the foyer. Donna Armstrong did a great job with the catering.

The meeting on May 26 featured John and Susan Francis of Orlando and John did a fantastic job explaining flash. However, the attendance to this meeting was very poor.

On June 21 the board showed some slideshows of members pictures and after a break announced the winners of the 9th Annual Spring Exhibit. Attendance to this meeting was a bit better.

With the pandemic still raging and it being very hot it is hard to get enthusiastic about anything, let alone photography. The challenge of July was food, and those pictures could be shot indoors… 19 members participated in this challenge. And I must say I saw some awesome pictures! For August the theme is Shallow Depth-of-Field.

On June 9 and July 15 (postponed from June 10 due to weather) Will Abair graciously offered his boat for an early morning boat trip on Lake Disston. According to all participants these trips were fantastic and the weather on both occasions was great. We’ll try and show some pictures in a future meeting.

The board meets regularly via Zoom and there are some new projects in the works, that we are very excited about. We try to do the best we can in difficult circumstances.

We are still not back to normal, but slowly but surely, we are getting there.

Till next time,

Ans
